Why I haven't been on and future

Why I haven't been on and future
So about 2-3 weeks ago my desktop broke. I'm going to need a new motherboard, processor and RAM. Due to some unexpected life expenses at the same time I have not had the money to fix this. So as of right now my main machine has been sitting dead not able to do anything.

The code for the game is backed up in multiple places so I didn't lose anything, but still it sucks.

At the same time I've been slammed at work. So I just haven't had time to even come on here and give you guys a heads up. The website I've been working on the last 2 months heavily is wrapping up and I'm going to have some time so I've been slowly ( Sad ) working on the game on my laptop.

I know conroy has also been busy living his life and I can't ask him to do more than he wants to. He worked for free all this time and I don't have the money to start paying him to do work, so its whatever he wants to do, which he hasn't had time for either.

I recently got an offer from a player we will see where that goes. But for now I just have not had much time to devote to the game. I'm sorry I haven't been able to keep you guys up to date, but there hasn't been much change and I honestly have no clue how much longer this update is going to take me to finish. The game will always stay up and we are still getting 1.3 million pageviews a month. As long as people are still playing I will have the game up and I will continue to work on it when I can. If you have any questions post them here.

Thanks for understanding,

Jeff

RE: Why I haven't been on and future
Sorry to hear about financial troubles, Jeff. We all have faced what you're going through "Unless you are Bill Gates or something." That being said, I am going to voice my opinion now.

That's understandable, not what I was Hoping for, but understandable. As a wise man once said, "Ship happens*."
Do it when you can, I don't know about the other players, but If its going to be that big, then it's worth the wait.

RE: Why I haven't been on and future
Its a complete re-write of the backend that is needed. It is too hard to fix anything on the current code base with too many side-effects if stuff goes wrong.

Its also very cluttered and damn near impossible to find something quickly even if you know where it is. It needs to be done and along with this I'm adding stuff too so yeah its a lot, but will improve the game greatly if nothing else make it easier to test, track, and fix bugs.

RE: Why I haven't been on and future
An idea, if the update is really big and worth having it done. I suggest that some players send some money to you and hire 2 or 3 people to work on it and get it done. There is a lot of people leaving because they got to the point that you can't do anything but take in the money. I will personally give $50.00, and if others players will do the same we will have the game done in no time. Whats everybody say....

RE: Why I haven't been on and future
While that would be nice I would need to find people who are willing to work on our code (its bad man) and then it would have to be done. Not saying it wouldn't be impossible but finding people who are willing, yet know enough to work on our code is tough.

RE: Why I haven't been on and future
Considering this is the first game you ever coded it's doing just fine.

I remember a PM long ago inviting me to a secret meeting on a top secret forum Smile .. I know the reason you created this was to keep the community (as dysfunctional as it can be) alive and for that , Thanks man!

It's been amazing watching you grow and having a place where a few friends can keep up with one another with just a few minutes a day.

We know the game has bugs, so what, it's been provided to us for free and there's no prize.

The community for a text based game is small, that was proven by the failure of the other game to keep an audience.

We have a blast fake trucking....Thanks!

Yeah, kickstarter.com could have huge outcome for this game, especially after more than 10k registered users in beta! I would myself strongly recommend to check it out!

RE: Why I haven't been on and future
I did and I actually got accepted to start one (you have to go through an application process to begin one). Problem was that I couldn't come up with any reasonable rewards.

the other problem is, that even if I get the money from a kick starter it still doesn't fix the time issue. This game is a hobby, it was never intended to be anything much more than that. So its not like I could leave work or anything.
