05/08/12 - Backend/Admin Panel Update

First off let me say I'm giving you guys detail of most of this as I want to be transparent about what this update means, who has permissions for what, and what will happen.

A problem we have had since the beginning was enforcing suspensions. This was due to me having put in a basic system and because the game was spread across multiple libraries and templates.

Now that we have worked on getting all core parts of the game over to one single library and one single template we decided it was time for a re-write of how we do suspensions.

User suspensions work across the site, no questions. When your user is suspended you won't be able to do anything with that account. Other accounts on the same IP are not effected by this type of suspension.

IP suspensions have been added, when an IP is suspended any account on that IP will not work. However if you switch computers to a different IP the accounts will work. This only blocks IP's and has no relation to users. You can be both IP suspended and User suspended at the same time. If this happens User suspension takes precedence. When an IP is suspended it will also not be able to create any new accounts.

Deleting Users - Only game admins will have access to this (currently myself, conroy, norman). With this it will delete every trace of you from the game. If you are CEO of a company with no VP it will delete the company. If there is a VP it will hand down the company to the VP. This is permanent and cannot be reversed. Donating does not give you any less chance either, if you break the rules bad enough that we feel you need to leave the game we will remove you. This will not be used that often but we are not afraid to use it either.

Updating Users - Only game admins, basically anything you can set manually (i.e. settings, bios, nicknames, etc...), we can change. We will only use this if what you set is against the rules.

Updating Companies - Only game admins, they can change the name, forum URL, bio again to stop companies from breaking the rules.

Force CEO out - Only game admins, here we can force a CEO out, but only if a VP is set. We will only use this in special cases and is up to the admin to decide if it is a valid use.

Delete Company - Only game admins, This will not hand the company down, this will sell all stocks (if any are out) at their current rate and give the money to the users, delete all contracts and sub contracts, delete the company, and make all users in the company have no company. It will send a PM to every member if this happens. This is permanent and cannot be reversed, we will only use this in cases where a company is breaking the rules to the point of where it is better for the game for the company to be out of the game. It will be rare.

Game mods can view information but can not edit it, delete or suspend. They can however do chat suspensions (this is not new). Our only game mod current is OneTruckPony.

I want to be transparent with everyone who is in power, and what we can do now from the game. We will enforce the rules and take appropriate action where it is needed.

You can read the game rules here: http://truckingsim.com/rules.php?t=rules

Finally, in the last update I asked everyone to mark multi's (more than 4) to be deleted and you won't get in trouble. In the next 24 hours we will start the deletion process, once we are done we will begin regularly searching for users with more than 4 IP's and taking action. You still have a small amount of time to mark your extra accounts (whether created accidentally or on purpose) without any repercussions.

We takes the rules seriously here and we want the game to be fun and fair for everyone.

Questions, comments, suggestions always welcome leave them as a reply!

Thanks,

I understand the need for the tighter restrictions, to prevent cheating, but this is going to kill smaller companies, who, due to their small numbers of active drivers, cannot bid on either the main contracts, or subsidiary contracts. I believe more main Contracts should be put into the system, so it will give larger Companies more Contracts, and also, naturally, provide more opportunities for Sub-Contracts that the small companies under 5 drivers can pick up.
Also, I keep seeing Sub-Contracts pop up today for 4 (FOUR) loads of Milk to Oregon, and I cannot get it, because "Your Company is too small to bid on this contract." That kind of restriction is ridiculous! We have 2 drivers, we can definitely haul 4 loads of anything! In the past, my 2 drivers have hauled 6 or 7 load Sub-Contracts, completing them on time with no problems! Maybe the Sub-Contract restrictions need to be freed up a little, to give us smaller Companies a better chance to compete.

We have added the following restrictions to company contracts:

Main, subsidiary and subcontracts:
A company cannot bid if winning the contract will result in total potential contract penalties greater than the company's assets.

Subsidiary contracts
A company must have 5 active drivers to bid (this was actually a bug which has now been fixed).
There is a maximum contract size limit which is double the size limit for main contract bidding.

Subcontracts
There are now size limits for subcontract creation.

For full details about the contract system please see the updated Company Contracts Game Guide.

Multiple accounts:

It has come to our attention that there may be some confusion about how many accounts each user can have. The rule is that you are allowed a maximum of 4 drivers per IP address, not 4 drivers each. This applies to every single location that you may access the game from. If you have other people at home/school/work also playing the game then it is 4 accounts between you, not 4 accounts each.

Up to this point we have not been very strict with this rule and so some people have more accounts than are allowed. However, in the near future multi-checking will be done automatically by the game. If you are in violation of this rule then this is your last chance to rectify the situation before accounts are removed from the game. If you have accounts that you need removing from the game use Settings -> Ask to be deleted.

Company Contracts

Contract System for TruckingSim

Main Contract System

Contracts are generated 3 times per day, at 8 hour intervals. The contract bidding end times are 00:30 08:30, 16:30 server time (CET/CEST).

Contracts bidding is done via an open auction where the lowest bid wins. The maximum/opening bid on a contract is $2.39 per mile Subsequent bids may be any value below the existing bid.

At the close of bidding (8 hours after contract generation) contracts which have bids are awarded to the appropriate companies. Each company then has 192 hours from the time the contract was awarded to deliver the require cargo weight. Contracts which have received no bids are moved to the subsidiary contract system.

Generation of contracts

Contract generation consists of the following variables:

$Rand(Source)
$Rand(Destination)
$Rand(poundmiles)

Cargo = Static supply of $Rand(Source)
Note: This means that some contracts will have an XP requirement.
Required Weight = $Rand(poundmiles) / (Distance between Source and Destination)
PenaltyClause = $0.005 * Required Weight (= $200 per load)

The number of contracts generated in each round is 15% of the number of companies with 5 or more active drivers with a spread of contracts similar to the distribution of companies according to size. An active driver is a driver who has been active in the 48 hours prior to the beginning of the bidding session.

Eligibility for bidding

Any company with 5 or more active drivers may bid on this type of contract.

Each company is rated based on the number of active drivers it has. A company may bid on any contract which has a rating between ⅓ of the company rating and double the company rating.

A company cannot bid if winning the contract will take the number of active contracts above 6.

A company cannot bid if winning the contract will result in total potential contract penalties greater than the company's assets.

Subsidiary Contract System

Contracts which have failed to receive any bids in the main contract system at the close of bidding are moved to the subsidiary contract system. Contracts in this system are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Each contract has a listed payment (per mile) and the first company to click on the bid button is awarded the contract.

When contracts first appear in the subsidiary contract system they have a listed payment of $2.50 per mile and the contract deadline is extended by 8 hours. Every 12 minutes after this point the payment may increase by 0, 1 or 2 cents per mile.

Any contracts which have not been awarded after 8 hours are deleted from the system.

Eligibility for bidding

Company rating is not applied to subsidiary contracts. Any company with 5 or more active drivers may bid on any subsidiary contract.

Each company is rated based on the number of active drivers it has. A company may bid on any contract which has a rating less than 4 times the company rating.

A company cannot bid if winning the contract will take the number of active contracts above 6.

A company cannot bid if winning the contract will result in total potential contract penalties greater than the company's assets.

Sub-contracting Company Contracts

A company that has won a contract through either the main or subsidiary contract system may choose to sub-contract parts of that contract to other companies. Subcontracts cannot be further subcontracted. Up to 3 subcontracts may be created from each contract won.

For the purpose of this explanation the following terms are defined:
“Client” : The imaginary user ordering/paying the original contract (i.e. the game).
“Main Contractor” : The company winning the original contract through the main or subsidiary contract system.
“Sub-contractor” : A company taking on part of the contract from the main contractor.

When choosing to sub-contract their contract the main contractor may set the following options:

The payment per mile, up to a maximum of $3 per mile.

The weight (in lbs) that the subcontracting company must deliver.

The deadline (see below)

The minimum number of drivers that the sub-contracting company may have to bid on the contract.

The deadline must coincide with one of the standard bidding/contract end times. The deadline is chosen in terms of a “buffer” between the end of the subsidiary contract and the main contract it contributes to. The options are between 0 and 48 hours in 8 hour increments.

The maximum weight that can be set is the lower of:

A general limit based on the distance to the static supply chosen by the game when the original contract was generated.

The weight required to complete the (main) contract.

This maximum weight is displayed on the create subcontract page.

The penalty clause is calculated according to the same formula as for main contracts, that is $0.005 * weight (=$200 per load).

Sub-contracts can only be created if there are more than 24 hours until the end of the main contract.

As with the subsidiary contract system, these contracts are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

Loads and payments in this system

Every load delivered by a sub-contractor counts against required total of both the main contractor and the sub-contractor.

When a load is delivered by a sub-contractor:
The client pays the main contractor the original bid rate.
The main contractor pays the sub-contractor the rate agreed in the sub-contract.

When a sub-contractor fails to meet their deadline
The sub-contractor pays the main contractor the agreed penalty clause.

Eligibility for bidding on sub-contracts
A company must meet the minimum active driver requirement specified by the main contractor.
A company may have a maximum of 10 active drivers.
A company cannot bid if winning the contract will take the number of active contracts above 6.
A company cannot bid if winning the contract will take the number of active sub-contracts above 3.
A company cannot bid if winning the contract will result in total potential contract penalties greater than the company's assets.

Independent drivers wishing to take on sub-contracts must first create their own company.

PenaltyClause = $0.005 * Required Weight (= $200 per load)
